My Hinari digital microwave oven has suddenly stopped working. There is power to it, as the clock and time set digits show. When I set the timer and press 'start' the seconds count down, but there is no fan, no light in the oven and (obviously) no microwaves in the cavity. It has not been moved and it was working perfectly the day before. I realise that all devices must come to an end of their life eventually, but I would have expected some hesitation, like it might not work the first time, but it works the second time you try it. It has served us well, so no complaints on that score. I just wondered if there is any simple thing I could try to get another few years out of it. It would obviously not be economic to take it for repair, as new ones can be picked up for less than £50.
Checked the fuses I trust. I suspect one could open it up and see if any wires have come loose, being careful not to touch high voltage, but as with most things, if the problem isn't obvious then it needs the expert and that may not be financially viable.
I seem to recall that there is a fuse in the microwave that can be replaced. Google "microwave repair" and see what comes up. A friend of mine used to go around and pick up discarded microwaves, and in most cases they just needed a new fuse. He made a little money doing this.
