Should I download SP2?  I've read reports, admittedly some time ago, that said it caused a lot of problems because it still had bugs. Is it now sorted?

...lol...I don't think it is bugs that cause problems...just that compatibility with some software is a little suspect. In my experience you have to fiddle with settings on some programs to get some WindowsXP software working as it was before the upgrade. Norton stuff is a case that comes to mind in my case, but eventually all finished up  working fine.......be prepared for some minor problems, but all in all I think it was worth doing...commoner.
Being a PC gamer, I held off downloading SP2 until a few weeks after hearing that it had problems with certain game titles. I've installed it now though and haven't had any problems with it.

After installing SP2 goto the Windows update page and install all the updates  - there should be quite a lot.  Install of of these and there shouldn't be any problems.

Yes, SP2 had bugs in it. There have been loads of fixes since it was released. I would install it now and get all the latest updates too.
