Crackling sound

When I listen to radio stations on-line the sound crackles when I use my computer, each time I type or move my move and worse still when opening a web page or file, presumably my computer is struggling to do more than one thing at once but this didn't happen until I recently had my hard drive replaced. Whats causing this and how can it be stopped?

Run DXDIAG and make sure that your sound hardware acceleration level is at full. If this doesn't work try downloading the latest drivers for your sound card.
