I'd guess easier if you take it out of the box.

One way to find out though.
Measuring tape methinks might assist.
Depends on the car and if the rear seats fold down flat.

it's not really a logistics puzzle OG :-) Lots must have bought new TVs, I'm wondering if we nip off to Currys will we be able to bring it home ourselves?
Same answer :-)

Yes
I can't comment on a 40" but I had no trouble getting a 37" in the back of a Golf.

That's encouraging Eccles

40" is only 3' 4", most cars could take that with room to spare, we brought a 50" home sat on rear seat (BMW 3 series) with the seat belts over it.
Question Author
Apparently the seats don't fold down. We shall see, just wondered so I can be prepared for disappointment.
Go for it!
Determination will get you there, although you might have to unpack it to get it in.
Without a shadow of a doubt.

Prudie, 40" is the diagonal measurement of the screen the actual width is probably about 38" plus packaging back to about 40" overall, it would be a very small car that wasn't that wide internally.
If where you are buying from is local, they may have the telephone number of a local cab company who have a 6/7 seater, (like a minibus) which will have the room for two or three 40 inch telvisions. We have a local superstore near us who provides this info. Have seen them load them up on a few occassions too.

Thanks all, there will be no problem getting it in but have returned empty handed as there are some technical queries we have to sort out first.
Should fit easily into the car but, surely the bigger problem is---is the place where you intend to use it, large enough to get the best viewing from that size of screen?
Question Author
yes beegee, it's not that much bigger than what we have already. Having been looking at TVs this afternoon 40" seems quite small in comparison with many now!
PS no I'm not having it fixed to the wall.
