Further, while I've no idea about the quality of their phone service, they clearly need someone to work on their website:

The 'pointing fingers' look like links but they're not. The list under 'Features' look like links but, again, they're not. The bottom of the page is also littered with apparent (but non-existent) links. Some things which shouldn't be links (e.g. their phone number) try to be. While there's a link telling you about cookies, there's no actual warning that the site uses cookies (as required by law).
The company definitely exists. It's been in business since 2010, with its registered office being at an accountant's firm in Acton.
Given that the company uses a 'voip' phone number, it suggests that they route phone traffic across the internet, in a similar way to Skype.

It is impossible for them to offer line rental using the pair of copper wires from BT that come into your house. Only BT can operate these as far as the local exchange (or to the green cabinet in the street if there are superfast broadband in your local area).
The only other alternative for line rental uses the Virgin cable connection into your property, if that exists.
What they are probably selling is as Buenchico describes, VOIP, which is only going to save you loads of money on loads of national or international calls. Not on line rental.
If it sounds too good to be true then it is.
Time to acquire large bargepole.

I could never understand anyone opting for any company who have to use BT 'phone lines to deliver their broadband, after all when anything goes wrong you will experience the ridiculous situation of BT & someone else arguing who is actually at fault.

>>Personally, I never do business with ANYBODY who rings out of the blue!
I agree.
And that is a good lesson to remember for the rest of your life, you are less likely to get scammed that way.
After all, you have no idea if this person who says they are from Opton actually are from Opton.
You may agree to take their service, hand over your credit card details, and find your card has then been used to buy a Rolls Royce.
Sad to say it, but never trust anyone who just phones you up.

Chris, thank you for the correction. BT (through Openreach) still own and maintain all the copper wire assets back to individual properties, but were forced by OFCOM to offer these lines wholesale to other providers.
The same does not (yet) happen with fibre.
The Virgin cable network, where available is entirely separate.
