Haven't used my Kindle for about3 months due to health problems.
tried to use it yesterday but it displays the battery symbol indicating it needs charging.
Have had it on charge via laptop for some hours now but no joy.
Is it ruined?
Can I buy new battery?
Silly old me!
Belated Easter Wishes to all.
We bought one of these from B&Q (lots of other places sell them). http://www.diy.com/departments/masterplug-grey-white-gloss-13a-usb-adaptor-plug/176674_BQ.prd Much cheaper than the kindle one and charges our Kindle & Kobo with no problems.
Thanks again bhg - do I need a cable or can I use the same one I plug into laptop@
Sorry to be so non-tech - am 92 and slowly but surely being taken over by all this technology!
The Masterplug thing will take exactly the same cable as you use on your laptop. If you looked at the link, the two slots on top are USB fitting, just like your laptop. It's just that the power output from laptops is not very large - the Masterplug can supply much more current.
I use my Samsung phone charger...no problems. I found out it would work via the kindle forum. I have a paperwhite...I don't know if it makes a difference depending on what model you may have.
Sorry to be so long in acknowledging more help.
Have ordered the charger recommended by hans - fingers crossed!
Thanks again to you both for throwing me a lifeline.
I use that charger and it is good. What bothers me about the Kindle battery is the short life between charges. If you slap on a chunkier external battery, guess it defeats the whole portability thing.
