Is There A War Happening On My Computer Or Am I Being Purposely Sabotaged?

I had Mcafee on my computer when I got it and tried to get rid of it which I thought I've done and downloaded avast free av.

Now my computer is running really slow and low and behold Mcafee is now popping up to kindly tell me that there are more than one av running which might cause problems on my computer.

Is Mcafee purposely making my computer slow so that I get rid of it's competitor? Would such a big company whose reputation means a lot risk such an underhanded tactic coming to light and risking a lawsuit?

My computer was fine until recently so it can't be a clash in av's.

You should remove one AV completely before installing another. For some AVs this can be tricky. Remove both lots fully having obtained proper instructions how, then reinstall the one of your choice.

Of course this slowdown may not be AV related but the warnings suggest they are to do with a failed uninstall. You do need to fix that.

I had this when I got rid of Norton. It had changed some system files and I had to reinstall Windows

It probably is a clash of AVs.

When you have two or more security products on your computer they "compete" with each other to check files and this constant checking can slow your computer down.

Here is a McAfee removal tool which will remove all (or most) McAfee products from your computer.

Run this, then do a reboot.

Some versions of Windows have a thing called the Action Centre which will tell you what security you have on your PC.

Open the Action Centre and see what security software Windows THINKS you are running.

p.s. It does help if you tell us what version of Windows you are running.

p.p.s It does not help to get paranoid in thinking McAfee are deliberately slowing down your computer (and opening themselves up to a lawsuit) when the real problem is that you did not uninstall McAfee properly.

2. Download and run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool

You can download the tool, install it, run it, and it should remove everything to do with McAfee.

Make sure you reboot Windows afterwards as some files can only be removed after a reboot.

With the greatest respect to your correspondents removing any program is not particularly difficult if you do it in a methodical manner. I have helped many hundreds of colleagues and friends with computer issues. That said McAfee is more tenacious than most. If your problem still exists please let me know and I'll give you a detailed clear out list.
