when I bought my computer, it had a 90 day trial for norton on it, I already bought norton anti spam/virus from pc world, when I try to install it, I am told norton allready exsists, delete it and try again, but I cannot delete the 90 day trial version, I have been to control panel, then to add remove programs but it is not shown on the list, the only mention is "live reg" and "live update" symantec corporation, HELP!!!!! please keep it simple.... Norton Internet Security and Symantec Corporation are one and the same company!  I know exactly what you are going through, I had the same problem.  Like yourself I am not too computer literate, so a lot of it is gobbledegook to me as well, but I found that after a lot of time and loss of hair I finally managed to install NIS 2005.  All I can advise you really is that if you get any error messages whilst trying to install your NIS, that you follow all the instructions that Symantec give you and see if it helps!  Try:-

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2004021112313539?Open&src=&docid=2005033108162039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=pfdocs&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

And see if it helps!

I'll bet you're running Windows XP Service Pack 2, because SP2 gave me nothing but trouble after I first installed it.  You've got to have patience, keep at it and you'll get there in the end.  If I can do it, any-body can, believe me!  Good Luck!

or failing that you could get rid of the most annoying program on the planet (imo) and get some software that, a: doesnt slow your pc, b: works and c: is free

my recommendations;
zone alarm (firewall)
avg (anti-virus)
spybot (anti-spyware)
adaware (anti-spyware)

all these are free :)
to echo previous post (a bit). stick with Norton if you like, but definitely download something like spybot, and use regularly. Keep immunised and updated and it looks after itself.
Uninstall the 90 day trial version, then install your new bought version.
