Avast

Well earlier this morning tried to download Avast but per usual the older antivirus wouldn't go away just saying it had expired etc (can't remember the bloody name of it). I didn't seem to be getting anywhere with the Avast so switched it off now I am back on but if I have been successful with it where would I find it. Top right corner nothing to indicate - anywhere else to look . Thanks
PS - As I am typing this McAfee (that's the one keeps popping up saying you are now expired and I have difficulty getting rid of it.

Well I do think I have succeeded - what a bloody long time tho - it started scanning for like 30 mins but asked could I leave it if I wanted to so I did.
Anyway went to Control Panel and the Avast icon - like a a wee jigjaw piece missing with a little C - please tell me I have succeeded - there is nothing at the top of the page but isnt that ok. Thanks to all who have helped me.

Hopefully jennyjoan you have nailed it. If so, I am relieved because my knowledge of Windows 8/8.1 is zero. In fact anything beyond Windows 7 is out of my league......I can't understand why folk like tonyav say such things as .."Were saved now that Hans has arrived. ".....If anything, he has helped in this thread more than I have.......So I would like to say to tony..." Oh you are awful but I like you" :-)
Anyway, now that you have achieved your object, I think it would be worthwhile having a run-through with the free edition of Malwarebytes, just in case there are any pups (Potentially Unwanted Programmes) hanging about to interfere with matters. It is 100% safe to have Malwarebytes as additional to your AV programme because there will Not be any conflict.
Download and run from the following; but making sure that you Do Not accept any trial offer of the premium edition.
