You can probably omit steps 2 & 4 from the instructions; it's running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware that usually the important bit. (NB: When installing the free version of Malwarebytes, take care to deselect the pre-ticked option to take a free trial of the Premium version):

Not everything that goes wrong (security wise) with a PC is a virus, so an anti virus program often wont find it or fix it.
Sometimes it is not a virus but malware (malicious software) that an anti virus program may not find.
Sometimes it is not even a virus OR malware, but just a "naughty" program that has attached itself to your browser.
So running anti virus programs, or even an anti malware programs, may not find and fix these things.
This is why these "free" anti virus programs are not that good at protecting your PC and a full (paid for) Internet Security Suite is the best solution as it will check for everything, viruses, malware, phishing, and more.
