hi there can any body please tell me if the apple macbook air has the ability to play cd's & dvd's in other words a drawing that pops out of the side?

No, it doesn't, that is why it can be so thin. No reason why you can't hook an external usb optical drive, though.

It would help if you tell us what you are trying to achieve. I can't see the point of hooking up your laptop which can play and display dvds and cds to a Macbook to display the dvd.

You can buy a perfectly good, slim external optical drive for under £20
