Is it cheaper to heat water in a hot water cylinder in the bathroom by offpeak electricity on a timeswitch for two hours before it switches onto the peak rate or by gas? I do not have the sort of boiler that heats the water as you turn the tap on as it is more suitable for me to have the boiler which heats water in the hot water cylinder. The gas heats the water more quickly but how to I compare the cost. My immersion heater may be furred up as even two hours of heating by electricity only gives me enough for one decent shower whereas by gas l still have left lots of hot water (this is after using the gas for one hour).

I'm on oil as we have no mains gas where i am but i also use an owl electricity monitor which tells me how much electric i'm using at any one time, with the immersion heater reads about 35p per hour, with the oil boiler it reads about 4p per hour+price of the oil but i haven't read book to find out how much oil per hour the boiler uses.
