I've been told that if I accept Windows 10, I should make a copy of it on a DVD before I install it, but what kind of DVD?...I thought they just held films etc and not storage space for software, so what kind of DVD do I get?...DVD-R or DVD- what exactly please? Ta Muchly.
If you accept the Win 10 Installation via Windows Update on your computer you don't need to make a DVD copy as it will download automatically and install itself. You then will have a 30 option to revert back to your previous Windows version, note that you can only upgrade free from Win 8.1 or Win 7.
If you need to download Win 10 Installation and create a Win DVD installation Disk (or a USB bootable device as an alternative )see:
You could use either a DVD -R Disk which is a Write Once only Disk or a rewritable DVD -RW Disk which will allow you to re-use for rewriting a number of times as desired.
Many Thanks Pinky for your extensive reply, but I think I've got to make a copy because I've also got to install a new upgrade speech system/screen reader, which can prove to be a very delicate piece of techno-biz and anyway, it will all be done in co-operation with someone else.
Make sure you do the upgrade FIRST before doing a Windows 10 install from the DVD.
When you do the free upgrade to Windows 10 then Microsoft registers your computer details on their database on their servers.
You can make a DVD AFTER doing the Windows 10 upgrade.
If at some later date you want to do a "clean install" of Windows 10 from DVD then Microsoft will already have your details so will allow the "free" install.
If you make a DVD of Windows 10 then try to do a "free" clean install from that BEFORE the upgrade it wont work as Microsoft wont have your PC details on their database and you wont have the Windows 10 serial number to enter.
You will then have to go out an BUY a Windows 10 license.
Just some additional info, Microsoft has released during Nov an updated / improved version of Windows 10 that allows a 'clean' installation option where it will recognise a valid Windows 7 or 8 license key to be input during the installation process for successful Win 10 product activation.
So, if you have a valid Windows 7 or 8 key available and use the latest Win 10 Installation download, then a 'clean' Win 10 install is possible without need to purchase a Windows 10 license. For example / info see:-
