The Chat section on my Facebook has become broader and is covering other info. Also, it doesn't show as many names. I may have inadvertently touched something which has caused it. Any ideas how to get back to the slimmer version please?

I don't use Facebook but I suspect that anyone trying to answer your question will need to know what type of device you're viewing Facebook on (e.g. a Windows laptop or an Android phone?) and whether you're using a web browser (which one?) or a dedicated Facebook app.

With some websites (viewed in a web browser) it's possible to click-&-drag the edges of individual panels to make them fit your screen better. Will that work with Facebook?

Check your zoom % which you will find by clicking on the 3 bars top right screen.
