i gave my friend a lap top which was not working
about 8 years old the laptop is

one thing im worried about
i for got to ask him for for the hard drive
i have some bank details on it
should i ask him to return it to mefor peace of mind

If your bank log on details are accessible on the device you need to change them ASAP!

If he's a friend I wouldn't be too worried about him taking advantage of the details, although you know him better than we do. The problem might come when he finally gets rid of it if it still has your details on it.
I think I'd go round and ask him if you can "tidy it up" so that you're sure there won't be a problem when he has to get rid of it. You can stress it's not him you're worried about, so he shouldn't take offence.
