Microsoft Security Scanner?

is it worth installing and how long does it take to install? i´ve been waiting for 10mins so far

Where are you getting it from? What prompted you to download it? I'd hang fire before installing it.

s.alice, i keep getting this irritating pop up window stating bsv processor, when i googled it, i was advised to download this. so i am scanning with it now. its taking an age. surely its ok if its from microsoft?

no its called "microsoft security scanner"

sorry read the words at top of screen, its actually called "microsoft safety scanner"

It looks as though it IS from Microsoft. So it is genuine.

Though I think it does nothing more than you would get from Microsoft Security Essentials as it uses the same definition file.

Also I am not sure how much resource Microsoft are putting in to it and some of the web pages look very old (one on the Microsoft site was dated 2011)

Not worth the bother imo. It's an on-demand scanner that you have to re-download every time you want to use it....otherwise it's out-of-date!

Second opinions are no bad thing if you are concerned your usual AV might be missing something.

Microsoft arent noted as a leading member of the antivirus tree - i`d leave it alone and stick with the recognised names.
