i remember scanning then preview and scan then print, amongst all this i would somehow drag a perfertd line over what i wanted printing and it would come out larger on a4

Which Version of Word are you using?

As an example, in Word 2010 to insert a jpeg picture, from the Word Top Menu bar there is an 'Insert' option. Selecting that allows you to then select 'Picture', followed by selecting the Jpeg filename to insert.
