I want to use the fan from an old computer to just circulate the air ,the thing is it has four wires red green blue and black and I have connected the six permutations of single wires to a battery charger but it doesn't run .can anyone help?

If it has a label I'd try searching for info on the fan on the Net.
Failing that, if there's a standard a fan websearch might uncover something anyway.
12 combinations if you take polarity into account. Have you tried both polarities?
Matter of interest. Is the a CPU fan or one fixed to the PC case ?
It is probably a stepping motor for accurate speed control which will need a multiphase supply. Look for a fan with 2 wires.

thanks BHG of course I forgot that but I did check the voltage was correct
I thought being a dc motor the polarity didn't matter
but off to try now

well tried again and no luck but did try an old sky box fan and that with two wires worked fine ,was just a little too small I will carry on searching but thanks for the help

You can buy a new one for about £5.
