Memory Stick

I need to buy a memory stick and have looked on Ebay but been blinded with science! I want a basic one to save files on. I have Windows 10. Please would someone guide me in the right direction. Many thanks.

What type of files? If you're saving lots and lots of HD videos you'll need the largest capacity available (which, to the best of my knowledge, is 256Gb).

However if you're only backing up things like Word documents you only need perhaps 2Gb. (Actually you could get away with far, far less, as the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica only takes up 1GB, but 2Gb is about the smallest size easily available these days).

If you're transferring very big files (like those HD videos I mentioned) and you've got a modern computer (with 'USB 3.0' ports) then it would be best to buy a memory stick which supports USB 3.0. It won't make any noticeable difference if you're only backing up Word documents though.

Other than that, you can ignore any technical stuff. Just look for an appropriate size and (perhaps, if you're handling very large files) whether 'USB 3.0' is mentioned.

A whopping great 256Gb pen drive will set you back around £70 but a little 2Gb one shouldn't cost more than £2 online.

I tried the one on Amazon as you suggested murraymints, but it wanted to charge me postage although it did say postage was free. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
Buenchico, I only need it to back up my Recovery disk (?) as I keep getting a pop up telling me to do it. No films or photos.

It's unclear as to exactly what type of recovery drive your computer wants you to create. A basic Recovery Drive's contents will fit easily onto a 1Gb or 2Gb drive but if the system files are to be included as well you'll need at least a 16Gb drive. So that's the size you should probably be looking for.

A bit late but, false pen drives are sold on eBay. I know, I bought one once and eBay/PayPal took the side of the conman. The drives can be set to read a larger memory than they actually have. Buy from a trusted source even if it costs a bit more, and don't buy from China where you have no chance of getting your money back.
