After many years ive finally got back on broadband and bought a new lappy.
However, internet connection/lappy is a bit slow and 'jerky'. I dont know if problem is broadband or laptop, any idea how to make it faster or smoother?
Broadband is virgin 50G
Lappy is Acer Aspire ES1-531
4GB memory
Would having more memory be of any use?
I havnt got a scooby where technology is concerned.
Thanks
Edge is the browser that ships with Windows 10. It has replaced the outdated and useless Internet Explorer.
You should have an icon for it in your task bar, a blue e
Microsoft finally accepted that Internet Explorer is c-r-a-p and brought out a brand new web browser for use with Windows 10. However they kept Internet Explorer available for people who'd prefer to stick with it. So Edge is the browser which Microsoft expect you to use with Windows 10 (although Firefox, Chrome, Avant, Vivaldi, etc are all still much better) but IE11 will be on your machine as well.
Easy mistake to make - there is nothing that says Edge when you open it.
Anyway, your machine should be whizzing along nicely now. If you are unaccustomed to Windows 10 the most important tip is to use right click on the Windows icon on the bottom left of the task bar.
Thanks for all help, its much appriciated. Just had firefox 'strongly reccommending' to update to latest version, which ive just done.
All this techno stuffs a lark aint it??
Remember that your laptop might still seem a little slow for a while if it's dealing with the multitude of updates that Microsoft throws at it, so don't really judge it until after the weekend.
Hours of my lifetime spent backing up, updating, scanning, problem solving, tweaking, fixing these machines that are designed to make my life easier :D
While a machine or its software may be "new" they might have been in the box for weeks / months so will be out of date as updates come out regularly. It took me 1.5 hours to get an antivirus program fully up to date even on a good connection.
