Bought a generic ink, from Amazon, for my HP printer. Doesn't work.

It's supposed to, fits and that. You're not supposed to enter a code or something with a non-HP ink, are you?

Sam Bought a single ink from a supplier some time ago and it wouldn't work in my Epson printer. Tried replacing all 4 inks from that supplier and it worked. Can only assume that the printer didn't like a "mixed batch" of inks - maybe yours is the same ?? FBG40

I'll just have to send off for a HP ink cartridge, just seems a shame to waste this one.

I don't mind a bit of the old banter, fbg. Gives someone else a rest, ;-)
Glad you took it as a joke Sam.

Update for 'all' those interested.

Because I am indeed a tightwad but fortunately also a genius, I went to Boots, told them I was a heroin addict*, and got a syringe.
Syringed the ink out of the new cartridge into the old, working one, and voila.
Thought you'd be interested.
*made that bit up. they sell them for 35p.
Man. Like what psychedelic colours is your printer knocking out now? :-)

I haven't actually tried it yet, dina. ;-)
Cosmic! :-)
Ive just had to replace with HP as generic toners (sainsbury) wouldnt work.

Something should be done at the huge price of toners as they only contain a sliver of soaked foam.
I have an HP Photosmart 5520 and have often used generic cartridges.
It throws up two or three pop ups in protest and tells me the error of my ways.Once they are clicked off it carries on as normal but won't show the inks level when requested.

Pity you never read this first, tambo. ;-)

Yeah, I was getting those 'warnings', dina, although the generic ink was supposed to be compatible.
Strange that. I have used Sainsbury own brand 4 pack of 364 and also ASDA's. Always printed out OK after the warnings were clicked off.I used a printer shop once who refilled my cartridges and the ink quality was carp.
They had a sign on the wall telling us how to stop the warning pop ups( on various makes/models of printer) but I never bothered to write the advice down. Shop has closed now. :-(

Further update. Doesn't work. ;-(

Message came up, something like, 'previously empty HP cartridge detected' and the paper's coming out whiter than when it went in.

If I wasn't such a coward I could cut one of my fingers off and jam it in the machine. There's enough ink on them to keep it running for a while.
