Hi All
Just bought a new Sony TV (KD-43XE7002) and it has the facility to record to an external USB HD. Tried it today but all I get is a message telling me that HD is not registered. Any ideas out there ? Any advice would be appreciated. Would add that the "manual" provided is next to useless, and so is the online manual. I tried both a 500Gb hd and a USB flash drive. Get the same message with both.

Pages 26 and 27 of the manual. Setup / Recording Set-up
In the setup menu there should be a recording set up option - this is where you register/deregister the HDD to use. The HDD can be formatted to either FAT32 or NTFS. It should be plugged into the correct USB slot - slot 3 seems to be the correct one for recording purposes on your TV.

can you ring the company you bought it from and ask them?
that;s what i had to do because i couldn't fathom the installation and some of the quirks of a new smart tv.

i got mine sorted after speaking to the shop and getting them back to fix the problem. hope you get it sorted.
where did you buy the item, from Sony or somewhere like PC World?

Hi Emmie
Bought it from Co-Operative Electricals, they were the cheapest and the best delivery service. Used them quite a few times and they have always been good. However, I digress. Think I've sussed out what's wrong. Just realised that the USB Hd has to have a minimum of 32 Gb memory - my dongle is only 8Gb and there wasn't enough space on my external HD to reach 32 Gb. Just waiting for Sony to confirm. Once again many thanks to all who have answered my question - Happy Christmas to all !

Aquariel says go into settings and register it i have the same tv
Are you subscribing to Sky/Virgin or BT for HD (High Definition) TV Channels ? If not you will not receive HD programmes.
rowanwitch - I think fbg40 is using HD = Hard Disc.
