Curing A Skipping Cd.

I have a triple playing CD player which hasn't been used in years, I tried to play a CD on it the other day, and it keeps skipping.

Any ideas on what I should do please?

Be careful that there are no scratches on the label side that you can see from the playing side - if so the there is nothing for the laser to bounce off of.

iv used an ear bud with a little lens cleaner on it and cleaned the laser diod...worked for me
