Can Anyone Recommend A Decent Wireless Printer

my HP is useless and died, it won't print at all.
I have a dell inspiron laptop, not that matters but i don't
want another useless HP printer which is what seems to be on offer
it has to be wireless so i can finally print out documents
etc and copy of course, it doesn't have to be a scanner
but if its three in one ok.
it has to be black in colour.

I'm using a Canon PIXMA TS5050 with no problems. However, make sure you get updated drivers/etc from the Canon uk support site first.

having followed the instructions so far it won't work. The CD disc isn't allowing me to install the software. No idea what to do now, especially as i don't know quite what i am doing.
Try the link that SlackAlice posted and download the software from Canon's website. My Epson scanner came with a software disc and I couldn't get the scanner to work with it. Downloading the drivers from Epson's website fixed the problem - try it.
Agreed about bhg’s suggestion.

Also, can you tell us what stage in the process it gets to when it stops?

it downloads about three quarters then just stops. I even left it running last evening, but no joy. I confess i am fed up, and don't really know what i'm doing. I try hard to understand but it's not coming together. My friend and i haven't got the printer actually working either, even to copy. sorry to be so negative, nor can i seem to adequately download slackalices post.

emmie - what operating system are you using on your laptop? If it's an old laptop with, say Vista, you might find that the drivers don't exist for your setup. When I moved fromone windows system to another about 10 years ago I lost the use of a perfectly good Epson Laserjet -Epson said because it was an old printer they hadn't bothered to write drivers for it on the new OS.
If the driver from Canon doesn’t help, go to Google, put in the Canon model no / youtube / setup.

I often get good tips from these sources.
Another possible source of help:

Did you buy it from Amazon? These days they have some very good after-sales service - I bought a 'smart' phone which went kaput, told them I wanted to return it, their service dept got in touch and talked me through fixing it. As it happens, they couldn't, and gave me a full refund instead - all this six+ weeks after purchase.

Anyway, only applicable if you bought through Amazon. Otherwise try Canon (sometimes helpful) or the retailer you DID buy it from.
If I've read your posts correctly, you've opted for the TS5150 printer. (It wouldn't have been my choice because it only uses 2 cartridges instead of 5 and the inks for it aren't cheap either but it's too late now anyway).

Please tell us which operating system you're using (Windows 7, Window 10 or whatever) AND whether it's the 32-bit of 64-bit version. (If you're not sure, click on the Start button, RIGHT-click on 'Computer' and select 'Properties'. You'll see the information there).

I'll try to download the installation file to my own computer and then upload it to a file-hosting site, so that you can hopefully download it without the problems you seem to be getting with the Canon site.

bought it from Amazon, and it sitting here looking woefully at me because i am such a dunce at these things.

If you're having problems downloading the installation file from the Canon website, try downloading it from here:

Then close your browser and any other programs you've got running before going to the location of the downloaded file and double-clicking on it to run it.
Swapped my HP all-in-one two years ago for a far lighter HP Envy machine.

Previous HP gobbled ink and print heads so you're paying more a year to run the printer (even on my light usage) than you paid for the device. Not to mention its irritating habit of going offline every now and then. Envy very light on ink usage, but stopped using the "remanufactured" inks after two bad experiences.

like any sensible person i expect you are having a sleep, when you see this can you advice, should i ring canon later on and get them to walk me through it.

its got as far as installing MP drivers but has now stopped 99 percent of the way, now what.....
Are you installing using a Wi Fi connection between pc and printer? If so, try using a cable instead, you can switch back to wi fi later. I know it's a pain in the 'butt' sometimes a wired connection is more stable and quicker.

Just verify your Windows 7 OS has Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. To do this take a look here

with the help of two phone calls to Canon and a lot of messing about, it works. But the MP Drivers are still loading and it should take about 3 minutes but is taking half an hour or more with only a small percentage to go, I have never had so much messing about to set it up, but i printed out a couple of things and its not too bad.
