We are going to Japan for 3 weeks in November and staying with SIL some of the time. One of the things that I am not too happy with is the fact she doesn't have wifi ( I know, I could hardly believe it myself), so I am looking for an alternative way to be able to go on-line, fast enough to watch films ( hopefully) but at least to be able to read the paper, AB, on-line banking and emails. Any ideas please ?

I thought Japan was all high tech these days. Maybe she is of the wrong generation.

If problems arise with SiL let your man sort her out - unless he's scared of her.

Enjoy your trip.
I usually use My3 Dongle it is quite consistent, but I haven't travelled to Japan though so can't say about the connection or speed.

Thanks. Plenty info there zac. Yes wolf63, she is a generation or two too early. Mr.Sam will sort out any problems, but I will be a very good girl, we don't often see her, maybe just a few weeks a year, so can manage that, but can still have a moan here I hope !
Sorry that I was of little help, but good luck with it all Xx

This is AB... we all love a little moaner. ;-)
Not everyone has wi fi. My mother wont have it. Obvious you are the younger gen. Think before you type hunni.
As a stop gap you could go to Starbucks or the Scottish restaurant.
Wolf63. I agree. Not all peeps have wi fi. Canot understand the jargon. The young ones think everybody knows. Diff world now. Over 30 an ur past it. God i could teach these young ones a thing or two. Cant say nothin these days.

thanks jacpinetree17 ! Nice to think I give the impression I am young ! I am 66.
If you're phone's not locked to a particular network you could buy a SIM to be used with a local service:

That would enable you to check on the news, etc but you'd not get enough data (without spending a fortune) to watch movies. Remember that you can use you phone as a hotspot to provide a wifi signal to other devices, so you could put a Japanese SIM in your phone but then view the internet on your iPad (or similar).

I thought that too CrapAtCryptics.

jacpinetree17 I'm 56 and get by with using the laptop but there are so many things that confuse me. I still don't understand what the point of Twitter is.
Am I the only one who thinks that travelling to Japan and wanting to watch films, on a phone, while there is a bit odd/sad?
Google "Teppy", Sam.

Buy or rent. Unlimited data available too.
gingejbee - why? Sam and Mr Sam are not going to be out partying all the time.

Ginge. We are visiting family, not “doing Japan”.
