dongle antennaes...do i need to install/configure..?

i have an o2 dongle, and ive just bought an antenna off ebay - which the owner said she used with the same dongle and it was fine...

however nothing happens ata all when i attach it to the dongle - do i need to imnstall anything or configure the dongle or computer in some way?

of course it may just be a dud and i wll ask for a refund - but wnted to check first - there were no instructions included nor is there a name on the antenna

Someone may know better, but I think plugging an antenna will not be "seen" by Windows. The signal should just be better.
