Can anyone help? How do i get into the system of my pc and dictate which programs should and shouldn't start up automatically when i swith my pc on. There seems to be a lot of programs running in the background on start up which slow the process down, any help would be much appreciated, thanks

A great little program which has served me well for the last couple of years until today (see my post below) is here, free to download and easy to use:

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

It allows you to select and deselect what starts up at startup.

You can also select "Run" from the start menu and simply type "msconfig" in the box that appears. This will bring up a window, just select the startup tab and untick the items you do not want to load up.

Just to be thorough on this matter. For some reason Win 2k does not have msconfig, so you need to run regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->MICROSOFT->WINDOWS->CURRENTVERSION->RUN

You can then hack stuff outta the start up group from there
