Yo first need to connect the printer to the router. Most modern routers and Canon printers are equiped with the automatic "connection" ability WPS. Firstly press the WPS button on the router and then, within 30 seconds press the WPS button on the printer. Wait until the router has all the lights back on and the printer should be connected. Yo may have to enter...

Doesn't the printer link to the PC? Don't know why the router change would affect it.

which is what i am likely to do tonyv

I've no experience connecting a printer wirelessly but it seems to me that, because the router was changed, the printer cannot "see" the network. There should be instructions in your printer manual that tell you how to connect it to the router - that will involve the router password which will be on alabel attached to the printer. Once you do that your computer should be able to see the printer via the network.
I don't understand - if you are not on the internet (no router) does that mean you cannot wirelessly connect your printer to your PC?

I just spoke with George at Canon who has so confused me that i think will not bother, its a nuisance as i want to be able to print my bank statement off. which is the prime reason for my post and call to Canon.
Oh dear!
Question Author
it is set up already but because i have a new password and new router i think that it can't be seen as suggested.
I can copy documents and scan but not print wirelessly
Essentially you have to tell the printer how to talk to your new router so that it can receive the print data from your computer via the router. This has to be done from the printer and the instructions ought to be in a quick start guide which came with the printer. Tell us the model of the printer & I'm sure we can find the instructions & get you back printing again. The make & model of the router would probably help as well.
Yo may have to enter the menu on the printer to foind the WPS option, so I would look for this first and then launch the router and printer. After this you will need to look in the settings on your lappie, find my devices and look if the printer is listed there. So Settings, Devices, Printers and scanners. If your printer is not showing in devises let the laptop search for it . Yo will find a greyed out square in printers and scanners that says " Add A Printer Or Scanner".
If you can't find the manual for your printer you can view/download one here:

Question Author
will have to have a think on how to change the password and router password, must be an easier way than "explained" by George at Canon.......
