Adblock

I've got Adblock on my computer but when I go on a website it asks me to unblock it as they rely on advertising, so if I don't then I can't see what's on the page! So I unblock it and all the ads come back! The worst ones for me are Adchoices, they are all over the page. Any advice for me, please?

I could tolerate ads if they didn't have such an impact on performance (such as they do on this site). The Mail now is plastered with ads, takes ages to load properly and sets my fan into overdrive.
