I recently bought a Targa DVD Player. Model: DP-5100x .

I needed to download the Firmware Update from targa.co.uk and I did so. It has to be burned to a disc but I am completely dumb when it comes to something like this. I don't know how to open the file. Can any one please help in a non technical way. As usual all help appreciated, and my thanks in advance.

If it's the same file I used, you need to unzip it. This will give you a file with the extension .iso - this is a disk image. To burn this you need to use your burning software and there should be an option to burn from a disk image (you may need to select the type in the dialogue box). This will create the corect structure on the disk. Burn it, then you use this disk in the player. Follow the instructions on the 'readme_en.txt' file that's included with the iso. It isn't too hard. Absolutely fantastic player by the way, especially on divx files. And if you got it at Lidls - an incredible bargain!

I don't know how to unzip it as I am not PC literate, but I thank you for your help nevertheless.

If you are running xp you can open it in windows explorer and save it to a location of your choice. If not you need winzip to extract the files. Do you have a friend who is good with computers to help?
AS I don't know your operating system (win 98, Win ME, Win XP,) I can only give an example for my own set up which runs Win XP...By the way this all assumes that your PC can burn cds...otherwise you need a friend to do it for you.....:-)

Double click the downloaded Zip file which will open to show the contents....click and hold down the mouse button on the file (it's obvious which one)and drag it to the desktop and let go...You got it out of the Zip file now...

My burning software is called Record Now and if I open it I have a choice of projects...I select Backup Projects and from the selection it gives is one called Burn Image.....

With a blank cd in your drive select that and browse to the file you just got out of the Zip and select it....click ok.

Click the Burn button and wait.......

Then put the cd in your new DVD Player and follow the instructions given on the Text file which is also in the zip.

Yours might be a bit different depending on your Burning package but the principal will be same....hope this helps....commoner
