My brother in law is registered with Talk Talk for his email ( on his phone) he wants to change his email to a gmail and Talk Talk say they’ll charge him £5 a month for this so he tried doing it on their desktop and it came up as ‘already in use’ but allegedly he can’t add to be seen as being on although sending him an email via gmai, he gets it
Confused? So am I so I thought I’d ask out there

Bobbi I have an email address with TalkTalk, msn and gmail.I think you still have to keep your email address with TalkTalk so they can send you your bill and any updates, but you can still open other email accounts.

Thanks Barsel, I think it’s because he doesn’t want to pay the £5 a month for their email service, I’ve tried telling him what they’re doing is perfect above board, they ‘ own’ the email domain and if his phone contract is with them , it’ll be included in the monthly charge but if he wants to port everything over to gmail and use that, he’ll still need to pay TT the £5 a month
just define them both to outlook and set sync between them.
Bobbi it might be different with a mobile phone. I only have broadband and landline with them.

I’m not sure what he has ,it’s difficult without actually being there, thanks both of you though
TalkTalk only charges £5 per month to use its email service for people who aren't customers of TalkTalk. Those who get their broadband service from TalkTalk get the email service for free.

Gmail is free to use irrespective of which broadband service and/or mobile phone provider one uses. Your BIL simply needs to get himself a Gmail address and configure the mail app on his phone to use it. (Better still, he should switch to using Gmail's own app).

If your brother wants emails sent to his TalkTalk address to be forwarded to his Gmail one, he should try using the 'mail collector' facility offered by Gmail.

(Just a personal note here: I much prefer GMX to Gmail. I find it far more intuitive to use and their phone app is excellent: https://www.gmx.co.uk/ )
