The only thing I've ever used on screens (TV, laptop, phone) and spectacles is a slightly damp, very fine-textured microfibre cloth.
No sprays, liquids, solvents needed...many screens have special coatings that can be damaged by using anything else.
A lot of screens nowadays have a coating to protect them, so it is very important to avoid a lot of wipe overs with any substance which could damage or remove that surface. So it is advisable to stick with simple but safe items which we all have in our homes.
Consequently, if I were able to grant Best Answer in this thread it would be given to waterboatman for his posting at 8.16am.
@gingejbee. ^^^........... A lot of spectacle and contact lens wipes are considered unsafe to use on Screens and I would be wary of using some wipes which are being sold specifically for Laptops, Smartphones, etc.
I was Not referring to waterboatman's postings at 8.11 & 8.13 but the one as I mentioned was for 8.16am.
^^OK, as you were. I still think that fine-textured microfibre cloths used slightly damp are a better bet than "cloths". The problem being that many people will use the nearest cloth they have to hand, which could be anything (even a coarse-textured tea-towel, for example). LCD screens are very easily scratched....you shouldn't even use paper towels, especially dry.
gingejbee.....I think you and I are basically in agreement on matters.
I acknowledge that paper towels could prove to be disastrous and any old cloth is Not acceptable along with anything of a course or corrosive nature, including , as you have indicated earlier, sprays, liquids & solvents (please exclude water and washing-up liquid).
Sincerely, out of interest, does a fine textured, dry, microfibre cloth remove greasy marks on screens.
I use a microfibre cloth for cleaning my specs every day as I find it is the best thing for removing grease. I do breathe on them, so does that count as damp?
^^^I wouldn't use them dry....I wet them and wring out as much as possible....so they feel like a damp chamois and yes, they remove greasy marks, fingerprints etc.
The very best cloths I have found (and I'm a bit OCD about screens and particularly my specs) are Eco Fused Microfiber (sic) from Amazon.
G'evening gingejbee.......Full marks, you have convinced me and, coupled with some research I have made into the merits of fine textured Microcloths, I have ordered identically in accordance with your recommendation. Delivery is this Thursday.
Incidentally, you might agree with me if I say to bhg481 ^^^ that breathing on his spectacles can count as damp.
