how can i stop this happening and why does it? is it because im using a VPN?

If you're IN the UK, you DON'T need a VPN to access bbc.co.uk (although, of course, you could still use a UK-based one if you choose to do so). Using a VPN that routes your traffic via an overseas IP address will result in a re-direct to bbc.com.

If you're OUTSIDE the UK, you DO need a (UK-based) VPN to access bbc.co.uk, otherwise you'll be redirected to bbc.com.

You can set the VPN to a place in the UK if you want BBC.co.uk, depends what you are using VPN for.

If you have been rerouted to bbc.com, you must clear your browsing history before resetting your VPN to the UK. Otherwise you will keep getting sent to BBC.com
