My laptop running windows 98e idoes not always sutdown successfully. The final message is 'Windows is shuuting down' and it stays there until the computer is physically switched off. Any ideas how I can rectify this problem?
Are you running an anti virus program? I know that one of the big ones (can't remember which) gave that problem - it went into DOS mode in the background and hung - leaving that message on the screen. Go to www.computing.net and do a search - they have an answer there somewhere.
Do you have mapped network drives? This is a known issue. Try searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base (start at support.microsoft.com) with the words 'shutdown hangs'. There's solutions and patches.
