many people may have seen this video and think it's evidence of the advances in robotics etc, it is a total fake, expect more of this sort of thing designed to fool the gullible and the wanna believers.

But we’ll never know, will we?

Robots will never be able to do that.
Yeah, but you don't believe there'll ever be self driving cars either. I think it an error to assume tech won't advance to do things that presently seem out of reach.
I was stuck on the A3 for a couple of hours recently due to a severe accident ahead. Eventually the police turned all the cars around to go the wrong way up the dual carriageway then the wrong way down an entry slip.

Imagine if all those cars had been self driving, programmed to follow road laws, how on earth would the police be able to get them to turn round and do that?

That's just one of the many problems.
If they had all been self-driving there may not have been an accident.
I heard AI described as a programme similar to predictive text.

The robot (or whatever) can only do what is a normal action in a situation, it is totally based on experience or memory programmed into it.
It can't suddenly decide to go for a walk or buy a pizza.

What the future holds is something that none of us will ever know.

Simply send all vehicles in the vicinity the news that the road was blocked and they need to find an alternative. Even sat navs can cope with that.
"What the future holds is something that none of us will ever know."

We will, every day that we don't die, and there is a constant stream of new stuff.
Ah... but then it's the present, not the future ;-)
In that case you have to set a benchmark.

You don't mind if I call you Mark, I hope.
OG sat navs can't plan an illegal route.
And Robots won't have a sense of humour.

OG: "Yeah, but you don't believe there'll ever be self driving cars either." - there won't be (but not for tech reasons) but they are easy compared to the TT robot!

AI is a terrible name, computers have by definition zero intelligence.
TT robot - what dis den?
Table tennis I imagine, wolf.
I don't think you can say that AI is a terrible name, or is never true by definition, because intelligence itself is hard to define in a watertight way.

Also, "never" is a very long time, particularly for problems that are, in some sense, merely "technical". Humans have proven very good at overcoming technical problems.

That's not to say that I'm convinced that this sort of thing will definitely be possible in future. At least as far as robots playing table tennis goes, I'm not sure it'll ever be an 'urgent'-enough problem to get the attention (time, money, resources) needed to solve it.
humans doing all the hard graft jobs while robots paint pictures and compose music and poetry, probably wasn't the future imagined by scientists and engineers.......
A better phrase than artificial intelligence is machine learning.

I'd go with Psuedo Intelligence. Psuedo is used in IT already, eg Psuedo random number.
