I'm concerned that my laptop is about develop a major functional fault, wondering if anyone can suggest what's going wrong.

It's only about 8 months old but in the last week or so almost daily for a minute or two the entire screen jiggles & judders noticeably from left to right, everything including the taskbar at the bottom. The movement I'd say is about 3mm shift back and forth horizontally, repeatedly & fast.

Grateful for any ideas, I don't even know what the correct description of the fault would be.

Sounds like a display driver problem.

You may have to check if there are driver updates available or even uninstall the last update. Give me a mo.

JUst a though  ...  have you recently installed an app?

Oddly that's not something I normally ever do but yes I did install something a couple of weeks ago but when I realised it wasn't what I wanted I uninstallled it within an hour. What is the connection?

That tells you to open the task manager by using ctrl+alt methods but the easiest way is to type task manager into the box at the bottom left of screen.

Thank you Togo that looks really helpful. I'll do Ctrl Alt Del next time it happens and see if it's all jiggling.

Did you check that the app had been uninstalled Prudie and do a reboot afterwards. If you are leaving the lappie in sleep mode it may need a reboot before the app is gone.

As I said Prudie it is easier(and probably safer) to open the Task Manager by typing "task manager" in that search box bottom left.

sounds like the screen is on the way out. Do you have a separate monitor? Plug that in and see how that looks.

Err indoors had a similar issue on a fairly new laptop. Fortunately she'd boaght it at an actual shop so she took it back and they replaced the screen.

You have the same rights if you buy online from a business, TTT - with additional rights.

I too would check the graphics driver to see if an update is available

12:22, yes I know but it's more agro.

This can't be the drivers they worked for 8 months. It's hardware, do what I said with a slave screen or even your TV then you'll know.

Are you allowed to use the phrase 'slave screen' these days?

"slave screen" is OK, but "screen slave" is considered insulting to AB regulars.

//This can't be the drivers they worked for 8 months//

If an upgrade has taken place it is possible that the driver has somehow become corrrupted. That is why the advice was to check everything. Plus if it was a hardware or duff lappie monitor it would probably be there all the time rather than intermittent. I still suspect an app that was not from the micosoft store/suite.

prudie try the slave monitor thing, let us know if that makes a difference.
