Sky TV phone plug in

I am having sky installed tomorrow and they have said I need to have a phone socket available to plug a cable into. My question is, if I take this out after the installer leaves will sky know? Or is it necessary to keep it plugged in all the time?

we had sky+ multiroom installed on a special offer of �49..or something like that, just before Christmas.

We were told that because it was a special online offer, we have to have the phone line connected for one year, or pay the full price. If you have paid the going price then you should be ok. when we first had Sky installed we unplugged the phone connection within the week with no consequences. I know someone who only had a mobile phone, and refused to have a BT line put in, he still has Sky.

I actually though sky updated the firmware over the phoneline?

Ours has been plugged in permanently and no additional charges have shown up.

The phone line is only needed to pay for extra things like Sky Box Office movies, placing online bets and so on.

The firmware is updated via the satellitte link.

I have had sky for about 5 years and unplugged the phone cable the data after they left and have never had a problem.

I have just had Sky+ installed and they reconnected the phone cable, but I have not unpluged it yet.

You could always unplug it and and if Sky complain say it interferred with your broadband connection or something like that.

My son was told he had to have it connected to a phone line to get the discount. The Sky engineer connected it wrongly so it never worked (not that he cared). When he informed Sky that it didn't work, they wanted to charge 75 quid to put it right! Of course he told them no thanks, so he got the discount and never actually had it connected to the phone.

I never connected my Sky box to a phone line - there wasn't one in the house when i got Sky in - and all updates have come through ok. Just can't order box office movies or play games.
