sky+ box problems

Has anyone had problems with their sky+ boxes? We have had no end of trouble with them and are on our 6th box!

what problems are you having? sounds like its something other than the box thats at fault ie. the cable from the dish needs replacing or the dish is faulty

well weve had engineers out every time. Apparently there is a long standing design fault with the amsrad boxes (found out on other forums) but sky are being a nightmare and refuse to replace our box with a new one ( not an amstrad or one of the older problematic ones) Just wondered if anyone else was having similar problems with sky.

What is the actual fault you are experiencing?

Various with each box. All our christmas recordings got wiped off, record doesn't work, pause doesn't work, pause works but then when you go to play again it freezes and you lose all the paused minutes, audio problems, recording the wrong programme. I could go on!
I have written to sky complaining and am waiting to see if and what they reply.
Ideally I would like a new box as the newer versions don't have all these problems.

no problem. Hmm.....sounds like it could be a software fault on some of the boxes. Also poor signal from dish, which will effect all the boxes in some way or another. Need a forced software download and a new LNB, probably a new cable from the dish too, if the installer didnt replace it, especially if you had existing standard sky. Oh, and possibly a new box!!! Although, when I say "new" box, it will actually be a refurbished box. I'm assuming its a PVR2 you have. The new PVR3 box doesn't seem to have as many problems as the PVR2...so far!! Good luck!

Hi,

I've had no end of problems with mine too...all of the symptoms you describe. It is either a problem with the hard drive, of the sky software - I'm not sure which. Sky won't admit to the latter, for the bad PR it will bring.

I will say this though: After having 3 replacement hard drives of the same spec as the standard Pace box ones, I gave up and bought one of these 250GB beasties! This runs at a lower RPM than the standard fit, and I've had no problems since installing it at Xmas
