Which Printer?

Can any ABers recommend a printer that doesnt cost a fortune to refill with ink?

We have found many cheap printers, but they cost a fortune in ink! I would rather pay a lot for the printer, and then be able to refill the ink at a reasonable cost.

Any ABers any advice please?

I'm pretty sure, from experience, you're going to find a similar problem with all printers. I think they sell them cheaply so they can make the real money on ink!

We have a Canon S330 which was recommended by Which? I'd suggest going to your library and looking at a more recent edition though.

I have recently managed to purchase an Epsom C46.the inks are available dead cheap.1.50 black and 1.99 colour.Maker Color jet.Nothing wrong with them.perfect prints.

Whatever you do, steer clear of Lexmark! They're a classic case of cheap printers that cost silly amounts to refill (and you don't seem to be able to get "compatible" cartridges to work with them either).

I find Epson are a pretty good make. Many of their colour printers use four separate cartridges - black, cyan, magenta and yellow - but the combined cost of the individual colour cartridges is usually cheaper than most multi-colour efforts.

i've got a canon ip3000, compatble inks are around �2 each, no complaints so far...........

Epson Photo Stylus 200 (or 300) or the latest versions (eg 220). Excellent and even prints directly onto CDs and DVDs. You can get cheap compatible cartridges for these.

Buy a cheap printer from pc world especialy if they have one on a low offer and when it runs out of ink throw it away and buy another, this method can be cheaper than buying cartridges!

I've got an Epson Stylus Photo RX425 - it's also a scanner and photocopier. The cartridges are inexpensive and the quality of the scanning, copying and colour is very good. Thanks for reminding me I need to order more!

It all depends on what you want from your printer.

I've had quite a few printers in my time, some good and some not so good.

The worst printer I've had was a HP Laserjet 5L, which I bought as part of a computer package, unfortunately the company went under, and the printer stopped dragging paper through. After many attempts to clean rollers etc, it went for a nice flight into the back garden, and off to the dump.

The best printer I've had (and it's still going strong) is a Xerox DocuPrint P12 which replaced the 5L

As for inkjets, I've had an Epson C82 and got sick of it, I don't use inkjets often, so everytime I tried to print on it, it took ages to clean the jets (it was probably the make of compatible cartridges) so I replaced it with a Canon IP5000
The canon is excellent, it prints onto CD's etc, and seems very reliable, refils are cheap and seem just as good as the canons, even on photographs.

I hate seeing the cheap 'disposable' printers in PC World, (normally lexmark) as it's often cheaper to replace the whole unit than buying a new cartridge, how bad is that for the landfills???
