We have wifi at work and I am trying to set up outlook express on it. I have a tiscali account and have followed the instructions to set up outlook, adding the pop and smtp account. I can received but can't send. Anyone got any ideas, I've checked and checked but am now at a loss. Who would be my server? is that Tiscali or should I not have a server if it is wifi? To stop spam from being sent, most internet providers will only allow you to send email through their own servers. I imagine that the internet service provider that you connect to via Wi-Fi at work isn't Tiscali, so you won't be able to use your Tiscali mail server to send with.

You will need to find out who your internet provider is at work, and set your Outlook Express to use that service provider's SMTP server instead. For a list of SMTP servers for various ISPs, check this link:

cheers, didn't realise that. Couldn't get the link to work though, nice story about a snow princess though!
Sorry about that, I think it's this forum, it adds a paragraph markup symbol to the end of the URL... when you've clicked, delete everything after (but not including) ".html" in the address bar.

yeah I got it finally, just got a bit confused but looked a bit closer. Thanks very much.
Many ISPs let you send via their SMTP servers even from other networks, just so long as you use an authenticated connection. You can set this up in the account properties of outlook/OE.

They do, but I have a feeling that Tiscali isn't one of them. You can try it though... go to the "Servers" tab of your account settings and tick the box that says "My server requires authentication". Click the "Settings" button next to that, and make sure the radio button next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected, and click ok.

I'm pretty sure that won't work in this case, but it's worth a try, good suggestion rojash, thanks.

From what I was told here I figured I needed to phone up the people who set up our wifi system, and hey presto was given the smtp and now it works brilliantly. Thanks everyone for your help. and for filling in my knowledge gaps.

Cheers
