Several phrases flash past in the bottom ribbon before connection but unless 'Connecting to site nnn.nn.nnn.nn'. appears, the connection fails.

When started after total shut down, the computer will usually find the chosen embedded site immediately but after Standby, it often takes several clicks on the 'e' symbol before the numbers finally appear and connection is made.

Any commnets?

have you run up to date spyware & anti virus?

try 'lavasofts adaware se personal'

and kasperskyanti-virus personal

these are both which mag recommended & free

Yep, sounds like markja is right, your PC is riddled with spyware/adware, including a browser hijacker or two. Ad-aware should sort the problem out for now, but make sure you have a good firewall installed too. I use the free version of ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com/ in conjunction with the NAT provided by my wireless router, but ZoneAlarm on its own does pretty well.

TKS for advice. I regularly run Spybot which occasionally fnds a villain which gets zapped; and MS AntiSpyware - which has *never* alerted me to any spies. It is up to date. Zone Alarm is also installed. Looks as if computer needs a good clean-up.
