I am trying to join a forum hosted by a different ISP to the one I'm using. But when I try to get a .NET passport a messege keeps coming up saying that I can't do it because I need to enable cookies, which it says are currently disabled. But when I look at the properties of my ISP, in the custom security section that under 'Cookies' the 'enabled' boxes are activated. However, this doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

I don't quite understand the "properties of my ISP" bit but cookie enabling can be set in the Internet Explorer properties: right click the IE icon on your desktop and left click properties, go to the security tab and highlight "Internet", click 'custom level' and ensure the 'cookies are enabled' radio button is selected. Repeat for "Trusted" and "Restricted" sites then 'apply'. Restart IE and it should work. Forgive me if I have misunderstood you and you have done all of this. Other things you could try include upgrading IE to version 6 service pack 1 (or whatever the latest version is) as this integrates with the .NET framework better (as does getting other .NET related Windows Updates: in IE tools-windows update).
Are you using Internet Explorer? If you are then have a look at the Internet Options which is under "Tools" at the top of the window. If you're running version 6 of Internet Explorer, there should be a tab with Privacy on it. On that page there is a slider that allows you to control cookies, slide it down to Medium and click Apply then OK. Hopefully you should be able to get your .NET passport now. My memory is a bit vague about previous versions of IE, but if you explore the Internet Options tabs you should find cookie controls somewhere. Failing this, are you running a firewall? Some firewalls can be a bit over protective, try disabling it temporarily. Good luck.

Sorry about the 'properties of my ISP' bit. That was meant to read properties of my Internet Explorer. I have tried enabling everything under the 'Security' tab and it doesn't want to know. I'm not sure what version of Internet Explorer I've got, but I don't think it's the latest.
I have had this problem but only on one site ... I never did solve what was causing it. It seemed silly if all other sites recognised that the Cookies WERE enabled why didn't this one?. In the end I put it down to the fact that I was using a Mac.
To find the version of IE just go to Help then 'About Internet Explorer' and it will say something like version 5.50.4807.2300 which is equivalent to IE 5.5. It could be down to the version of IE you are using or by some odd in discrepancy like WendyW has suffered.
