Which Broadband Connection?

I am currently using a dial-up internet connection but have decided to drag myself into 21st century by signing up for broadband.

Which company offers the best deal? I just want a straightforward and cheap(ish) deal.

What do you think?

There is a company called Carphone Warehouse who are offering free bt broadband if you sign up to their phone package. Unfortunately I have not been able to see what the deal is.

I have been happy enough with Tiscali, I pay �14.99 a month for unlimited downloads (fair usage policy applies) for 1 meg speed, but in fact my speed is 2.3 meg, maybe I live near the exchange

I read a survey about broadband providers in our paper over the weekend. Apparently all the 'big' names have a high level of disatisfaction amongst their customers. Of course, the suppliers refute this!

The one with the highest rating from their customers was Plusnet.

demon is good, we've had it for over a year now and had no problems with it. www.demon.net

we had problems with AOL, freeserve & virgin. but this one is working well.

i think its meant to be one of the best broadband servers.

Don't go with the Carphone Warehouse as you need to sign up to something like an 18 month contract and the offer they're making is financially unsustainable. They'll *have* to bring in a bandwidth cap to stop losing too much money too quickly.

If you can get cable then ntl and (especially) telewest are recommended.
If not, I've not heard many problems with virgin, demon or my own 'freedom2surf'. I think my ISP is brilliant.

Did I mention I get money from my ISP if someone signs up after being referred by me? :-D

I'm with Seriously Internet and its a sort of PAYG service, minmum charge is �14.99 a month for up to 8MB (subject to your exchange and location) and depending on how much you download you pay a maximum of �27.99 once you hit the �27.99 mark you can keep using bandwidth as much as you like, no restrictions and only be charged the capped price.

Free to migrate, free static IP address and no port throttling.

I've been with Wanadoo for over 2 years now and just upgraded to their wireless service and have 3 computers connected wirelessly to it and never had a problem with them whatsoever!

I think they're great and not had a problem when I need to speak to them either on the phone!

PS, I don't work for them, honest!!

If you already have cable tv, then get broadband from your cable supplier.

There are basically two types: cable broadband, from the same line that you get cable TV, and ADSL broadband, which is what all the rest supply down your regular phone line. Both do the same thing in the end, though technically the cable line is superiour. A good ADSL ISP is Tiscali. Well, I've found them to be pretty good, others haven't. But I think that can be said about most ISPs anyway.
