hello I have posted this on the Jobs and Education section as well but I have been advised to post it here as well.My son answered an advertisement in Scotland for something to do with computers (IT I think ) he thought it was for a job interview but it turned out to be from New Horizons learning centre. This place is a computer learning centre and they said if he paid 4000 for the course he would do a course in computers or something to do with computers and at the end of the course they would get him a job at 30000 per annum and if he did well he would be retained. He really liked the people interviewing him.Has anybody any experience of this learning center or a similar one.My son has a degree with some electronics in it and they seemed interested in him. 4000 is all lot of money so I would be very grateful to anybody who could supply me with any information or experience that they have had with this or other learning centres.Your comments would be very much appreciated.Their website is

many thanks in advance

Sounds like they have a good sales team. Be careful and do your homework. The website does not guarantee a job for anyone - only assistance in looking for one. Ideally try to find someone who has completed the course. I don't doubt the qualification is real (what is the final qualification worth? can he get it elsewhere and cheaper?) but what happens if there are no jobs at the end of the course. Ask loads of questions - if you don't get straight answers walk out.

I am currently doing a Cisco course along the same lines, not with this company, but the cost is similar.

They guarantee that if I keep my side of the bargain - ie to study the material, do the assignments properly (from memory) and pass the exams, then they promise to get me a job using the newly gained qualification or refund the entire cost of the course.

I'm doing it through Scheidegger at www.scheidegger.co.uk

As others have pointed out, they just want your money for the training course.

There is no 'job' as such.

Although salaries of 30,000 and more are possible in the IT industry you do not earn it by taking one computer course.

Far more useful is a range of skills and experience.
