TV sound but no picture

Any ideas or is a new tv required? For a while now if I turn the tv off I cannot turn it back on straight away. Well I can but there is no picture just a black screen. Now it is taking ages for a picture to come on & some times it is not coming on at all when turning on. It is doing this when first switched on in the morning now!

Is it an old tv?
CRT (Cathode ray tube) tv's do wear out, and take longer to warm up
