Is my TV NTSC compatible?

I'd like to be able to play DVDs from other regions than region 2. I have the correct equipment for doing this. However, I also know that unless my television is compatible with the NTSC standard, I'll get a black and white picture. It's a 28' Samsung set that's about four years old. I've found that it's compatible with the 60Hz mode available in a lot of console computer games which is what makes me question it's compatibility since NTSC uses a 60Hz signal. It mentions nothing in the manual about being NTSC compatible, but it also doesn't say that it's 60Hz compatible despite the fact that it clearly is. I've been told by a few people that it should be fine for watching NTSC encoded DVDs but I'd like a broader range of opinions. Cheers.

your best bet is to try a NTSC video or DVD and see what happens also if you have a chipped playstation the you could try a US game in it which will aslo be the same....all new TV's and VCR seem to be compatable but i wouldn't like to say your would be for sure as four years old although still quite new is on the threshold for that technology........end result is try and borrow a yank dvd and see how it goes.

If you TV won't do it on it's own, you need a converter. It's a little box that takes in an NTSC signal and pipes out a PAL one. They're dead cheap, here's one that would do the job. http://www.play-asia.com/paos-13-10696000.html
