The distance does not matter. it can be 3000 miles if you want.

Peanut - i understand that you can view from huge distances i often look at one in Dubai to get an idea of the weather before i go - what i am searching for is information on how to set one up so that i can keep an eye on what is happening at home
you would have to continuously broadcast your webcam images over the www, then log onto that webpage to see it. Wouldn't everyone else be able to see it too though?

yes they would but if you log onto things like eyeball surf check here in Devon they don't have things like Netmeeting or MSN running, you just go to the address and there it is, that is what I want to be able to do
You need an IP camera that connects directly to a network via wired ethernet or wireless wifi. They aren't cheap and the logistics and cost of setting yourself up a network 15 miles from home would possibly be quite big! You can use a secure link so only you could view it or possibly use a password protected https secure web page but this might be the least of your worries.

Simply put, if you want to set this up somewhere like your office where most of the infrastructure is in place, then you probably just need the IP webcam and an hour or two. If you want to set one up at the beach to check the surf before you pack up the van, then unless you're rich, forget it!
