Can I use a recordable DVD SCART linked to a non recordable DVD to copy DVD's ? Assuming that the DVD's have no copy protection on them - what if they have ?
Yes that will work for non copy protected DVD's and machines that have macrovision disabled. But if you are trying to copy a regular DVD then your DVD recorder will most likely say "protected content" and won't record. I tried it with an old VHS copy of Stephen Kings "Langoliers" couldn't find it on DVD so went to record it using my DVD recorder and no...it won't let me!
So you cannot even copy old video tapes ?
There must be a "fix" for this out there somewhere - a BIOS upgrade for the DVD or do some recorders get round this ?
I don't know how the tapes are protected but when they are all I can record is the opening shot, followed by a whole recording of a little red square. Sometimes it's the copyright symbol or a red cross.
But how they do it, I don't know. Oh - I did get one where the recording was five minutes of film followed by 15 minutes blank screen, continuously.
Yep Macrovision, as I said...if you have a DVD recorder with Macrovision disabled then I think you will be able to copy proper VHS tapes or you can just buy one of those grey boxes. You can see the copy protection in action if you try and do a VHS to VHS copy, the colours will change loads.
