Hi,

I have been using norton antivirus version 2003 for a few years (obviously!) and have paid my subscription to the end of this year!

All has been well but now when i try to (Live)update the virus definitions i get the following error:

I have been on to symantecs website and downloaded the autofic tool and it says that my version is out of date and i need to purchase a newer version. I have searched and searched for an email address for their technical support but the site just send me round in circles without giving out any contact details!

How can this be if i have paid up until november?

Any advise would be greatfully recieved, failing that what would you recomend as the best AntiVirus software for a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance!

Will

Having used Norton for ages I had loads of issues with 2006 so I switched to the free AVG antivirus and it's found loads of stuff Norton seemed to have missed.

Get AVG from here and stop handing over money to evil old Peter Norton! - http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg 71free_394a763.exe

Ditto Jen....

I had exactly the same problem as will and I've converted to AVG with great success. Updates are a lot more frequent and nothing to pay !!

Same here AVG rules!!!!
Except for Avast which is even better.
I had been suffering the same problem for some time, but all seems to be well today (or yesterday as it's 1 minute past 12) Anyway, this

should update your definitions. It only takes a minute or two if you are on broadband.

But during the hiatus i switched to AVG too and will probably not update Norton 2003 coe December.

Thanks guys - you've all been a great help!

Atoach , Norton is working again for me know! Dooh!

I downloaded and installed AVG but it doesn't let in any email (i use outlook express). I have tried everything to reconfigue it (everything apart from the thing i need to do i expect!!!) but have had no luck! I have had to uninstall it to get to my emails, but would like to continue using it as an extra precaution! Any ideas what i'm missing (and please dodnt say a few brain cells...lol?

Thanks again!
Glad Norton is working again for you too. I have to disable AVG's email scanner, via the Control Center, to download new messages to Outlook Express as well. You don't have to uninstall it altogether.
Just checked this: this is what works for me.
Click on "AVG Free" icon when you've reinstalled it.
The top entry in the left hand column is "Control Center" (above "Virus Vault").
Left click.
The middle box on top row is "Email Scanner".
Right click.
Properties comes up.
Left click it.
Click Disable plugin in the new box.
Click OK (you might have to wait a few seconds).
The Email Scanner box turns red; a balloon appears in the bottom right of your screen warning you that the email scanner is not fully functional.
You should now be able to access Outlook Express.
To reactivate once you've downloaded and read your emails, go back to the Control Center and right-click the now red Email Scanner box. Left click "activate".
Voila.
