Error 0x80040154 signifies that there is an unregistered .dll file. These errors usually have an application (X.exe) or dynamic link library file (X.dll) associated with it, so more information is required. If you could post the error message in its entirety and the circumstances the error occured (you were using your mic for what?) we can trouble-shoot this error better.

this happened in the my computer --> control panel --> sounds --> voice --> voice set up. and just when i was about to start the voice test the error comes up as An error ocurred during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error code is 0x80150175 i think my friend renamed a dll for me so i could speak on counter-strike but i dont think its because of that
That still doesn't help me: I would expect you should get a abc has caused a xyz error 0x80150175 in 123 type of error and we need you to fill in the gaps. For example if comctl32.dll caused an 0x0000006 error in viaudio.sys then we can narrow down the cause.
I have the same problem. This occurs when I run the 'Sound Hardware Test Wizard.' DirectPlay Voice Setup An error occurred during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error code is 0x80040154. then Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install. Any help would be great. ~ Sarah
If you run Norton Internet Security try looking in your Programs list and change the Permit dpv.exe to Block. This does the trick!!!!!
I'm having the same problem. When I run the hardware test in the voice tab of audio properties I get the directplay error 0x80040154 followed by the error message that windows could not execute DPVSETUP.EXE My mic doesn't work because of this. Is there an error in the dll or what? I have dx9.0c, windows XP, an asus a7n8x2 mobo with onboard sound. I've had the same problem with the onboard ac97 sound disabled using a pci soundblaster live 5.1 as well. latest drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled, yadayadayada
Sorry, also that norton internet security thing didn't work, not sure how it could. I've tried the answer supplied by microsoft in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2828 82
